I KNOW A WOMAN WHO…..had a mother who was experiencing dementia. At the time of this incidence of grace from God the woman’s dementia had gotten bad enough she no longer could live alone.
Her mother was the “go getter” type of woman. Her mother didn’t fear anything. (Once, a wasp had gotten in the house and her mother just reached over and squashed it with her thumb). If her mother wanted to do something she didn’t let anything get in her way. She owned rental property and managed it herself. She also was a hoarder, but not quite as bad as the ones on TV are depicted. However, if people left thing in her rental units she never threw it away. I tell you all of this to set the stage.
The woman I know had been a Christian from the age of six. But by the age of 56 she had matured in her Christianity and made every effort to live a life of faith. When it became apparent that her mother could no longer live by herself; her brothers, her husband and she decided to build an addition onto her house and use her mother’s home to finance the addition. God blessed the construction which went smoothly, and even helped convince her mother to make the move. Just as they were ready to make the move, a small bone in her mother’s leg broke and she could not walk on it. Thus the mother accepted the fact that she needed to move in to her apartment built onto her daughter’s home. A lot of people might question God’s involvement in this, but the timing was just too perfect.
Anyway, the mother got moved out of her home and the woman I know (the daughter) set about to prepare the house to be sold. Remember, the mother was a hoarder. Along with everything else she had in the house it was horribly infested with cockroaches. It was so badly infested their feces could be smelt. One could open a cabinet door and they would fly out at you. Roach poison had been put out, but didn’t seem to make a dent. They were even inside the walls. One day while at the house, trying to clean, the daughter said to God: “You know God, this would be a lot easier if I didn’t have to deal with these roaches.” She wasn’t thinking about that being a prayer, she was just making conversation. THE NEXT DAY WHEN SHE CAME BACK THERE WERE NO LIVE ROACHES, NOR ANY THE FOLLOWING DAYS.
True story.

This writing is not a biography, but rather one of a series of recollections of times when God did a work of grace in the life of a particular woman. She is not a woman who had any extraordinary talents or had any special abilities to make her stand out. She was neither pretty nor ugly; and, not extraordinarily smart, but of good intelligence. In other words she personifies most women. However, what does make her recollections unique is that this woman knew God through saving faith in the work of Jesus Christ who paid the penalty for her sins and achieved victory over death by rising from the dead.
